The UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar buy more from Brazil every year. Supplier requirements, however, are stricter than most exporters expect.

The Gulf as a Buyer: What Middle Eastern Importers Require

Gulf countries import most of what they consume and have been formalizing food security and industrial supply programs with explicit origin-diversification targets. For Brazilian exporters, that means real, recurring demand, with purchasing power and healthy payment cycles.

It also means a standard that screens out unprepared suppliers within weeks. Halal certification where applicable, Arabic labeling, sanitary registration in the destination country, the ability to hold steady volume across twelve months, and impeccable documentation on every shipment. None of it is negotiable after the order.

The most common mistake is treating the Gulf as a one-off opportunity. Buyers there build long-term relationships and punish inconsistency severely: one out-of-spec shipment usually costs the entire relationship, not just the order.

Those who arrive prepared find a demanding, loyal, large-scale buyer. Those who improvise find a door that does not reopen.
